Tanya-On The Go.....
REAL TALK
Since my graduation as a health coach in 2021 I struggled with identifying a career path that aligned with my desire to work in the health and wellness industry in a way that honoured my life experiences. I thought my degree would be the tool that would uncover the yellow brick road to my ultimate purpose. Boy was I wrong! I had this amazing credential that elevated my profile within the health and wellness sector; however, no amount of networking, job searching nor furiously clicking my heels revealed opportunities allowing me to share this new found knowledge, skillset and passion with others.
I wrote in previous blogs What (the heck) is a Health Coach? and My Journey to Health Coaching about my experience and passion for fitness, nutrition and wellness. So, now with a health coaching degree in hand being this stuck felt truly perplexing. I couldn't for the life of me find a way to to apply all of my life experiences in a way that mattered and sparked joy (shout out to Marie Kondo!).
THE ASSIGNMENT
2021 saw many professional twists (promotion & a raise!) and personal turns (failing family health) and much to my shock time slipped by at the speed of light. Fast forward to August 2022. I woke up a few weeks shy of celebrating another year on this earth and still found myself struggling with this ongoing problem. Rolling out of bed, I suited up and took myself out for my morning walk and pressed play on one of my favourite podcasts (The Model Health Show). Listening to health expert Shawn Stevenson and other professionals talking about wellness, passion and purpose I found my thoughts drifting away to how unfulfilled I was in my current job.
Enough was enough, shifting gears and diverting myself away from the negative I asked myself "other than Brad (my husband) what makes YOU happy"? Having done this exercise a few times in the past I still felt embarrassed by how simple my responses seemed: moving my body, food and travel. Oh and wineπ·.
I rolled up my sleeves (it was hot outside!), got down to brass tacks and then asked myself "what is it specifically about these things that make them so special"?
As I continued walking, I had the realisation that it wasn't just moving my body that made me happy but finding new and fun ways to stay fit and healthy. It wasn't just about eating food but talking about flavours and the experience of specific culinary adventures or my latest creation in the kitchen. Β It wasn't just travelling that put a spring in my step but immersing myself in culture and language in a way that made me feel like I was home. It was in that moment that a light bulb went off and the magic happened.
Tanya-ON THE GO
It was as if the universe had finally aligned. I realised that not only did I do these things naturally for the experience and my own pleasure but that I received just as much enjoyment by sharing these findings, knowledge and insights with friends and family. By now, I had turned off my podcast (sorry Shawn!), my pace had picked up and I could not remove the grin on my face. Did I have something here??
What if I started sharing travel resources that aligned with my take on wellness and travel? What if I curated it in a way that honoured individuals current health and wellness goals and called it Tanya - On the Go? I could provide tips, tools, guides and wellness driven ideas that would assist people in maintaining balance while enjoying the heck out of their travels. Well, hot Damn!
AND WE'RE OFF!
Unfortunately, a few life events interceded and it has been almost another year since that glorious walk. Nevertheless, I am proud to share that Tanya-On the Go has officially launched today and I could not be happier in this moment! This platform really taps into so many intersections of my life and I can finally share ideas and recommendations based upon my experiences and travels to 60+ countries.
Tanya-On The Go is a resource and inspiration for anyone looking to stay active while on the road - can someone say running tour of Berlin! Or it can be used to tap into culinary insights showcasing regional cuisine, yummy, cool and authentic experiences or options that align with dietary requirements. Just as importantly, it provides pro-tips allowing people to plan fun and wholesome trips while discovering the magic that each city has to offer.
I am so excited to share this platform with you and to see this community grow. I can't wait to hear from like-minded travellers as I explore and share new fit, fun and healthier ways to travel!
